Dennis Jones is a retired geologist with almost forty years in the minerals industry. At retirement he was VP Exploration for Iamgold Corporation, a Canadian gold mining and exploration company active in North and South America and Africa. Dennis was head of the exploration team that discovered the 3+ million ounce Quimsacocha gold/copper deposit in Ecuador. Throughout his career, Mr. Jones was noted for stressing the importance of carrying out exploration programs at the highest levels of environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
Prior to his term with Iamgold, Dennis was President of GeoQuest International Inc, his own consulting company, which specialized in foreign assignments. He worked on projects on behalf of major and junior exploration companies, financial groups, governments and the Canadian International Development Agency.
Dennis also has experience with other consulting companies, notably Watts, Griffis & McOuat Ltd. and Derry, Michener & Booth, where he carried out a wide variety of projects in mineral exploration and mining.
For seven years, Dennis worked with the United Nations as a geologist and project manager involved in gold and base metals exploration, mainly in South America, as part of an initiative to build or improve the mining industries of developing countries.
Dennis is now involved on a voluntary basis in key initiatives of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. He is a Director of the association and Co-Chair of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee which was responsible for developing the web-based manual, "e3 Plus: A Framework for Responsible Exploration" (www.pdac.ca/e3plus). The manual assists exploration companies to improve their CSR performance in the fields of environmental stewardship, social responsibility and health and safety.
In 2006, Dennis was a member of the Advisory Group to the Canadian government for the national roundtables on corporate social responsibility of Canadian extractive industries working in developing countries.
Dennis is on the Executive Committee of the CSR Centre for Excellence, a Canadian government initiative which aims to provide a forum for the development and dissemination of a leading-edge database in the field of corporate social responsibility.
