Corporate Update
Cornerstone has been through a very challenging 18 months starting back in April/08 with the shutdown of the mining industry in Ecuador by the Mining Mandate, then followed by the worst bear market since the Great Depression. While many junior mining companies have not yet enjoyed a strong price rebound, with more liquidity coupled with record high gold prices, we expect to see a returning interest in the junior mining sector. . . We've made great progress since the summer and the pieces are now in place for a successful re-launch of our programs in Ecuador. We are very pleased and excited to have Intrepid Mines Ltd., an Australian-based gold mining and development company, partnering on our highly prospective Shyri property. Corporate Update
Since my June update things have moved unsatisfyingly, but perhaps predictably, slowly in Ecuador. The government has yet to enact the Mining Regulations (although promised for the end of the month) and while some companies have received the necessary interim environmental permits required to recommence field work, none yet have the final approval of the Minister of Mines and Petroleum (MMP). . . February Update
On January 13th we reported on the approval of the new mining law by the Ecuadorian congress. The law was subsequently officially enacted on January 29th which now clears the way for "normalization" of exploration and mining activities in the country . . . (5 KB) |
